about heirloom

A little about me: My name is Austyn Wix Christopher and I am married to the most hardworking man named John Christopher. And he is one of the main reasons this space looks so good! Something cool about us, we are both born and raised in dear ole Powder Springs, Ga. In fact, we met and fell in love right down the street at McEachern High School. He doesn’t believe me but he first caught my eye at Tapp Middle School, our moms would both park in the same area to pick us up after school and I would walk behind him and silently crush over him. I have vivid memories of him in one of his baseball jerseys with “Christopher” on the back, it was red. Okay, enough embarrassing myself. Now we live in Dallas, Ga. and are parents to 3 lovely little daughters: Sunny, Mikey, and Wix. You will have the pleasure of meeting my little family when you come and shop or view art.

A little about the space: this house means so much to me for so many reasons. The main reason is that it used to be home to my very own legend of a mom! She grew up in this house with my mawmaw, pawpaw and her siblings. This was the family hub: I have vivid memories of having Christmas dinners here. One year we gifted mawmaw a kitten that got stuck in the bottom of the Christmas stocking we used to surprise her with. I remember for Christmas one year getting a pogo stick and breaking my own pogo records on the front porch. I could go on and on with lovely memories I have in this home. And now I get to open up my very first business within these walls. Now the name might make a little more sense. It is a very special family keepsake, an heirloom that has been passed down to me. And I hope everyone who walks through the front door feels a sense of home and can see how truly special it is.

Antiques: I love all things vintage and I have a soft spot in my heart for memorabilia. I believe things can tell a story and I am always down to listen.

Art: my background is in art. My mom always called me her “artsy fartsy” kid. I graduated with an undergraduate degree from KSU in Art History, fashion and film. I was lucky enough to land a job as an elementary art school teacher, where I worked for 5 years. But when I had my 2nd daughter, Mikey I decided I needed to be home, and I never looked back. But being surrounded by art and lovely things is a requirement for me. I have always created art and never thought I was “good enough” to be in a gallery. But that is never true. If you create art, I believe that you deserve to take up space, gallery space. Every artist deserves to be celebrated. And now I have the power and the gallery to do so. If you know any level of artist I would love to host an art show for them.
